2019 is the 100-year anniversary of the May Fourth Movement. To commemorate Mr. Lo Chia-luen, who was one of the leaders of the May Fourth Movement and a key organizer of the predecessor of National Chengchi University (NCCU), NCCU establishes the Lo Chia-luen International Sinology Chair, which commenced on November 22, 2019.

NCCU President Ming-Cheng Kuo (郭明政) has expressed his gratitude to all those who have helped make the Sinology Chair possible. He is especially grateful for Lo’s two daughters, Jiu-fang Lo (羅久芳) and Jiu-Hwa Lo (羅久華), who, besides being the major donators of the fund for setting up the Chair, have also donated their father’s collection of 13,000 books, which are now kept at the NCCU Main Library. Through the Lo Chia-luen International Sinology Chair, President Kuo hopes to fully mobilize academic resources concerning sinology domestically and globally, in order to establish a leading position for NCCU in the field of sinology.

Every year, in addition to having a Chair Professor, the Lo Chia-luen International Sinology Chair will also invite three domestic or overseas prestigious scholars to NCCU to serve as visiting chair professors. Under the Chair program, they will deliver speeches, instruct students and conduct research at NCCU.
